Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
I have many thoughts about this book and honestly not a lot of them are great. So I couldn't decide if I was going to even write a review because I just didn't like this book. But here we are.
First off Nick.. He is one of the worst boyfriends ever. He has been with Rachel for two freaking years. They haven't spoken about marriage.. which I guess I get they are both focused on their careers.. but it's still a bit weird. He didn't tell his family about Rachel.. they have been together for TWO years! And he has said nothing!? His family is a bit crazy but come on. Thats not ok. He brings Rachel to meet his family without giving her a single word about them. She is completely blindsided by how rich and how much money means to their family. Oh and lets not forget that he forgot to mention that he has slept with a couple of the girls there. She gets blindsided by that as well. Not cool Nick. Not cool at all.
So all of this and it kind of makes me think less of Rachel. She's been coasting along with this guy for a couple years and she doesn't feel comfortable asking about his family? And she doesn't really care when she found out his family knows nothing about it? Eh. Oh and I hate that she just kind of went along with everything talking crap about her. I just didn't like her.
To be honest, I didn't like any of the characters. Well maybe Rachel's friend. I can't remember her name but I liked her. I also didn't really feel connected with any of the characters. I think because the POV changed so often and with so many people. I didn't really get a feel for any of them.
I read this book because I want to see the movie and I always read the book first. But I honestly don't think I will pick up the next book in this series.
