Review: Light My Fire

Light My Fire Light My Fire by G.A. Aiken
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

re-read aug 18 2017.. This may be my favorite book of all time. It is fantastic.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh you guys. This is by far the best book from this series. It is one of the best books I've read in a long while. I don't even think I can write a proper review. That's honestly how much I loved it. But I shall try.

The book starts off with Elina with a ridiculously long name from the Stepps "attempting" to assassinate the Dragon Queen. I say "attempting" because she really didn't try. She told the guard, Celyn, that she was there to kill the queen and then when brought before the queen she told her that she was there to kill her.. Everyone laughed and Celyn was ordered to put her somewhere safe and he put her in jail and then forgot about her for months. But then the Queen decides she wants Elina to try to help form an alliance with the dragons and the women of the Stepps. So thats how the whole journey started. Celyn escorts Elina back home.

Obviously a lot more happens but you can read the book and find all that out. What I freaking loved about this book was Elina and Celyn. I don't even know how to explain. Elina is blunt to the point of rudeness. She takes everything that is said literally and everything she says is meant to be literal. She says anything and everything that should never be said. She wasn't dramatic in any way. Everything was said just as a fact and I effing love her. I seriously want her in my life. No other character has ever made me laugh as much.

“It must be nice to fly.”
“Is that sarcasm?”
“No. If I could fly, I would live in tree. Stare down at everyone... quietly hating them all.”

“What are you doing?” he asked, sounding much more panicked than he’d like to.
“It has been long day,” she replied nonchalantly. “Much activity. I am tired but not sleepy. I thought we could fuck and then I would have good night’s sleep, making me ready for ride tomorrow.”
“You want to fuck me?”
“You are only one here. I could play with myself, but... you are here. And sometimes my hands get tired. I do not want them worn out in case we have more murderers to kill tomorrow.”

And Ceyln just accepts and takes anything that Elina throws at him. And he is funny as well. I also love his interaction with his sister. I don't think anyone else could have made a better mate for Elina. He was sweet, even when Elina had no clue why. He was just adorable. He is my favorite dragon. By far. I love him.

I loved literally everything about this book. I am excited to read the next one with Elina's sister :)

Review: One Dark Throne

One Dark Throne One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Well this one was much better than the first. A lot more happens. And we have Billy. I enjoyed Billy quite a lot.. except for a couple chapters where I wanted to end him but other than that he was my favorite character.

Since this book doesn't come out for another month, I really don't want to give anything away. Although you can kind of guess some parts of it. I did enjoy reading this one.. at least more than I enjoyed the first book and I am interested in where the story is going to go from here.

Review: Three Dark Crowns

Three Dark Crowns Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I'm trying really hard not to be super negative about this book. But honestly I kind of hated it... I was bored pretty much from the beginning. The only reason I finished the book was because I got an ARC of the second. But my biggest issue was Joseph... WHY THE HELL was he added into this story?????? At first I thought it was just to add a bit of romance to the book but then when he cheated a million times... so seriously why was he there. It bothered me so freaking much. Cheating in books is the one thing I do not tolerate and when it happens 99.9% of the time I stop reading immediately. So I really, really wanted to stop reading this one.

I LOVE the idea behind this book. I just hate the way it was written. I hated every single character... Except maybe Arsinoe. She was ok.

I am not really looking forward to the next one.. but I will read it. Or at least attempt to.

Review: Stalking Jack the Ripper

Stalking Jack the Ripper Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was a lot more graphic than I thought it was going to be. There were a few times that I actually felt queasy. But to be fair I get queasy when I get a paper cut...

I really enjoyed this book. A lot more than i thought I would. There were a few times that I wanted to punch Audrey Rose in the face. She was a little naive but I still really enjoyed her. And Thomas was perfection. I freaking loved the hell out of him.

I absolutely loved how the author told this story. I loved the conclusion. I was blown away by the creativity. Seriously so good

Review: To Sir Phillip, With Love

To Sir Phillip, With Love To Sir Phillip, With Love by Julia Quinn
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Oh man I hated this book. I actually LOVE the idea behind this story but I hate the way it played out. I love the idea of them falling in love through letters but that's not what happened.

Sir Phillip was an ass. He was plotting to get a wife while his current wife was dying. Which okay whatever. His only reason he wanted to get remarried was so he wouldn't have to deal with his children. Even after he married Eloise, he got pissed because she wanted to talk to him about this children. So I just hated him with a fiery passion.

I also hated the way it ended. They both all of a sudden realized that they loved each other and they lived happily ever after. Oh and Phillip realized that he wanted to be a part of his kids lives. Thats freaking obnoxious. It should have been a slow build up. Especially with his kids. They went on 1 outing and everything is totally fine. GAH. HATED IT.

For the most part I have liked this series a lot and so I will keep going. There is always going to be one couple I don't like. But usually it's because of the woman... I hated Phillip... Im not sure if I have said that enough...

Review: Moon Kissed

Moon Kissed Moon Kissed by Jennifer Snyder
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.5 stars.

I always enjoy Jennifer Snyder's books. So when I saw that she was putting out a new werewolf series, I was so excited! I received an ARC of this book from a Facebook giveaway.

One of the things that I loved most about this book is the way you became a werewolf. Mina was born with the potential to become a wolf (or Moon Kissed). I like that just because you were born in the pack didn't mean you automatically turned furry.

I also really liked Mina... I think she was a little silly for dating a human guy but then again I also understand that she wanted to chance for normalcy. Plus she hadn't been moon kissed yet.

The book leaves off at a really good place and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one!

Review: The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I honestly don't know how I feel about this book.. It was weird. It defiantly wasn't my kind of book. It was super dramatic and angsty, which isn't the kind of book I usually enjoy. So.. Do I rate it low because I really didn't like it? Is that really fair when I picked up a book that was way, way out of my comfort zone? Bah.

So I enjoyed parts of this story... Well I think I like the idea of this story more than I liked the actual story. The idea that a girl has some seriously messed up gift seemed interesting. But I think my problem was that I didn't like Mara and I really didn't like Noah either. It's hard to get into a complex story like this when I don't like the characters. I think a lot of the school drama was unnecessary too. Unless some of those characters have gifts too?? If not, then yeah waste of my freaking time.

And that ending? psh. So freaking dramatic.

I may read the next book.. I haven't really decided yet. I kind of want to know how it goes.. but then a part of me really doesn't care.
